A unique project, born inside the theater and not limited, as it often happens today, within the framework of license agreements with rights holders, appeared in the theater on September 12, 2014. Following the series of high-profile premieres in the musical genre ("Dance of Vampires", 2011, "Aladdin" and "Chaplin" (2013), the general manager of the theater, Yuri Schwarzkopf, decided to create an original performance of great form and great style in the genre of musical comedy.

The proposal for the production was given to the Dutch director Cornelius Baltus, who declared himself a work in the team of the cult musical "Dance of Vampires" by Roman Polanski. His choice fell on the operetta of the once successful Austrian composer Ralph Benatzky "Axel at the Gate of Heaven" (1936) about the life of capricious inhabitants of the dream factory of the early 20th century. After much work on the material, together with composer and arranger Adrian Werum (Germany) and choreographer Dennis Callahan (USA), Baltus presented to the public an operetta "full of the energy of the musical", which received a new name on the stage - "Hollywood diva". And, of course, the stars of theater and cinema were invited to the role of the main characters, who added the project of secular chic.

Critics have certified the premiere as "spectacular", "life-affirming" and "spectacular." Musical Comedy was declared a theater, "from which, more often than from others, the audience leaves happy". And the jury of professional awards was also appreciated by the performance itself (the Russian National Theater Award "Golden Mask" in the nomination "The Best Performance in an Operetta / Musical"), and some actor's works (The Higher Theater Award of St. Petersburg "Golden Soffit" V. Kosobutskaya in the nomination "Best Female Role in an Operetta / Musical").

The performance entered the history of the Theater of Musical Comedy as one of the most ambitious both in terms of the decoration decision and the number of participating artists. Suffice it to say that the installation of decoration equipment is carried out within two days, and more than fifty artists enter the stage, of which forty are ballet dancers. During the performance one spectacular dance number replaces another, recalling the brilliant European shows of the early 20th century and the best musical comedy films of the black and white cinema era. And it remains only to regret that the work of the choreographer in the genre of operetta and musical does not sing out any Russian theatrical "Oscar" in a separate nomination.

The final shows of the performance will be held from March 15 to 19.
